3 x 3 calls

I know this is a little late, but I’ve only just found out about these two calls!

There is an open call for a new anthology called A Luxury We Cannot Afford, by the good people at Math Paper Press. It’s kinda fun, because you have to know a little context to really get it. Or, y’know, have google-fu.

The deadline for submission is 13 July 2014. Here’s part of what they’re looking for:

Singapore is a country of many invented, transplanted, or self-made myths and legends, but one man towers above them all. In 1969, he famously declared that “poetry is a luxury we cannot afford.” As the island nation approaches its 50th anniversary, it seems only poetic justice to examine the life and career of this legendary, polarising figure through a medium so ballyhooed by him.

You can read all the details at their site.

Writing The City is running a poetry competition called Shakespeare lives… in Singapore.

2014 marks the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth. To celebrate, Writing the City is holding a special competition themed around the work of the greatest poet and playwright in the English language. Dive in and write a short piece of fiction or a poem inspired by any one of the Bard’s characters or works – but make sure your setting is modern-day Singapore.

Deadline is 30 June 2014. Check out their website for all the details, including what you can win!

And don’t forget, THE SEA IS OURS is still open for submissions – but submit soon, since the call closes on 30 June 2014!
